More progress is being made as investigators try to prevent future gas leaks like the one that caused the August 26th explosion in downtown Wheatley.

Water samples have now successfully been collected from monitoring wells installed near APEC (area of potential environment concern) 2, also known as the old Tait well, and the Wheatley Arena.

Municipal officials say those samples should help investigators get a better understand of the geology underneath Wheatley.

In the meantime, more equipment has been brought to the site to re-enter APEC 2, work which is expected to start later this week.

Any further access to homes and properties in the area will be paused while that work is going on.
