Sam’s Hotel Fire Could Have Been Worse

Eight people were displaced from their rooms as a result of a fire at Sam’s Hotel in Wallaceburg early Monday morning.

Assistant Fire Chief Adam Walters says firefighters were quick to act when smoke became visible from a second floor room.

“They made a fast attack on that apartment complex and got the flames out quickly,” Walters explains. “After that they helped all the residents evacuate safely, the cause is still under investigation.”

A damage estimate has not been released, but there was significant water damage to the Dufferin Avenue building.

Walters says a working sprinkler system prevented the situation from being a lot worse.
