Sarnia-Lambton-Bkejwanong MP Crosses Floor To Liberals

Another Conservative Member of Parliament has crossed the floor to join the Liberal Party, and this time it’s a little closer to home for the southwest region.

Marilyn Gladu, the MP for Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong, announced on Wednesday that she has joined Prime Minister Mark Carney, marking the fifth time an MP has crossed to the Liberals over the last few months.

“The past year has been like no other that Canada has ever faced, and I’ve heard clearly from constituents that you want serious leadership and a real plan to build a stronger and more independent Canadian economy,” Gladu said in a statement. “I have made a choice to do the best thing for our community’s priorities, and importantly, for our country.”

A longtime Conservative, Gladu was first elected to her riding in 2015 and was reelected for a fourth term in the last federal election. She has held several opposition critic roles and, in 2020, made a bid for the Conservative leadership, but was disqualified when the party deemed her ineligible.

The latest floor crossing puts Carney’s Liberal government at 171 seats, just one shy of a majority.
