Hockey players from around the world will be descending on southwestern Ontario this fall.
Sarnia-Lambton is hosting the World Under 17 Challenge November 1st through the 9th with some of the best international players hitting the ice at rinks in Sarnia, Petrolia, and Forest.
Competing teams include Canada, the US, Sweden, Finland, and Czechia.
Festivities will include games, family-friendly activities, and a FanFest.
Thousands of visitors are expected for the week-long event. Officials with Tourism Sarnia-Lambton say the economic impact of this tournament extends beyond immediate tourism benefits.
Local organizations and businesses benefit from increased sales and revenues, with studies estimating that major sporting events such as the WU17 event can contribute 4 to5 million dollars to the local economies.
Tickets go on sale September 10th.
