Sarnia Man Arrested Following Two Break Ins in Chatham

An arrest has been made following a pair of break ins in Chatham.

According to Chatham-Kent Police, the homeowner arrived at his St Clair Street property yesterday afternoon to find someone had forced their way into his home and an outbuilding, and several items, including a blue bike, had been stolen.

Authorities received a similar complaint a few hours later from another home on St Clair. In that cause, police say a man was found on the victim’s property and suspected he’d also been in her barn. When confronted, the accused became hostile and threw a rock through a window of the house.

The suspect fled, but left behind a blue bike, matching the description of the one stolen earlier in the day.

Police managed to track down the accused around 7:30 last night and say he was carrying the first homeowner’s ID.

A 59-year-old from Sarnia is now charged with break and enter, mischief, and possession of stolen property.
