Scammers Targeting CK’s Seniors

Local police are issuing a warning to the public after multiple Chatham-Kent residents were recently the target of a “grandparent scam.”

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers received several complaints from victims of these scams over a 24-hour period late last week.

Grandparent scams are typically used to trick elderly people with the scammers impersonating a family member, often a grandchild, who is in distress. The scammers will often request money to secure their loved one’s release.

Scammers will claim to be affiliated with law enforcement as part of their deceptive tactics designed to manipulate victims into complying with their demands.

Anyone who would like to report a fraud can contact the Chatham-Kent Police Service at 519-352-1234.
