Students and staff from a local high school will be hitting the streets of Chatham-Kent this Halloween, but it won’t be to collect candy.

Around 250 volunteers from Ursuline College will cover 50 routes through neighbourhoods in CK to collect canned goods and non-perishable food items for the Lancers Scare Hunger event.

Collection will take place between 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. on October 31.

All donations will be given to Chatham Outreach for Hunger to stock up its shelves for the coming Christmas season, which is traditionally one of the food bank’s busiest times of the year.

Those who won’t be home but wish to contribute can leave a donation on their front porch with a note that says “UCC” or “donation” so the students know they can collect it.
