The local English Catholic school board is in the black heading into the new school year.

The St Clair Catholic District School Board is reporting a $1.1-million surplus for the 2016-17 school year.

The board’s budget has been approved by trustees, with $108.5-million in revenue and $107.5-million in expenses.

Associate Director and Treasurer Jim McKenzie says the budget needed some adjustments, mainly due to the increased cost associated with provincially negotiated contracts. But McKenzie says that doesn’t have any significant impact on any one department or school.
