A recent online petition to bring back crossing guard positions has started a discussion among Chatham-Kent residents.
When asked for comment, Jim Costello, Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board said,
“This is an unfortunate decision. The Director of St. Clair Catholic, Dan Parr and myself wrote a letter to them asking them to reconsider. While we recognize that everyone has a budget decisions to make, anything that involves student safety is a serious concern for us. We are very concerned about that decision but I understand now that the decision has been finalized.”
Costello also mentioned that crossing guards have always been a municipal government responsibility.
