Today marks the start of National School Bus Safety Week, and local officials are reminding drivers and families to keep safety top of mind.
Officials with Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services, better known as CLASS, are urging motorists to stay alert around school zones and stopped buses. The consortium transports over 17,000 local students from the St. Clair Catholic and Lambton Kent District School Boards each day.
This year’s theme is “Safe Ride, Everyday Heroes,” highlighting the essential work of local drivers.
“This annual observance is a great opportunity for each of us to pause and reflect on the importance of school bus safety as well as recognizing the valuable work of our school bus drivers and operators,” says Kent Orr, CLASS General Manager.
Orr is encouraging parents and students to say a special thank you to their drivers this week, particularly on School Bus Driver Appreciation Day, taking place on Wednesday.
