Today is the last day of elementary school before the summer break.
That means starting tomorrow, there will be a lot more kids around during the day.
Chatham-Kent Police Constable Kelly Helbin says safety can’t take a holiday.
“We sometimes don’t pay attention to some of the little ones as they’re walking through parking lots or on the street,” Helbin says. “Kids have to be very aware of their surroundings, parents have to try to continue to instill that in their young kids, but also as motorists we have to make sure we pay attention, sometimes we just lose ourselves in the day.”
Helbin says everyone is busy and excited, but needs to be aware of their surroundings.
