The St Clair Region Conservation Authority is extending its flood watch for the Sydenham River and surrounding waterways.

Director of Water Resources, Girish Sankar says water levels have been climbing steadily with flooding in many areas.

“Another 30-40 millimeters of rain is forecast, so [because] the levels – which are already high [along the banks in] the entire watershed, the water is going to continue to remain that high, or pushed higher, so we’re anticipating a number of road closures”, says Sankar.

Those closures, primarily in the St Clair Township area, include Pretty Road, Waubuno Road, Black Ash Road, Plowing Match Road, and Fairweather Road.

Sankar says whenever heavy rainfall warnings are in effect, safety warnings go into effect as well.

“Safety is an important thing. We often recommend that people stay away from the water courses. Moving into the weekend, if people want to go out, we ask that they please stay away from the water courses, and slippery banks, as swift moving water is dangerous”, he says.
