A local online editing company is under new ownership.

Chatham-Kent based Scribendi is joining forces with Japanese-based Edanz Incorporated.

Officials say the acquisition is a significant strategic move for both companies and expands their global reach.

“We are thrilled to welcome Scribendi to the Edanz family,” said CEO Koji Yamashita in a news release. “This represents a significant step forward in our mission to support researchers and facilitate global scientific communication. By joining forces, we will be better positioned to support researchers and authors in achieving their publication goals, while also expanding our services to meet the evolving needs of the academic and publishing communities.”

Scribendi was founded in 1997 by Chatham residents Chandra Clarke and Terry Johnson before transitioning to a new leadership team under Patricia Riopel and Enrico Magnani of Magnum Capital Partners in 2017.

Scribendi’s staff includes roughly 400 freelancers as well as support staff and management personnel at the company’s head office on Riverview Drive in Chatham.

A spokesperson for Edanz says the company is committed to retaining and supporting staff in Chatham-Kent, and the merger is expected to create new opportunities for growth and expansion as well as the potential for new roles and responsibilities for existing staff.
