SDH Receives Provincial Support

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is investing $7.3-million dollars into Wallaceburg’s hospital.

Provincial officials were in Wallaceburg on April 14th to announce $7.3 million in funding for upgrades to the Sydenham Campus.

The money will go toward rebuilding the hospital’s electrical system, boilers, generators, and other power needs.

Alliance CEO Lori Marshall made the announcement Saturday morning.

“It represents $7.3 million dollars in capital funding that will allow us to replace the power plant at the Wallaceburg site,” Marshall says. “That really is what I’ve described as the backbone and nervous system of the hospital, and it’s really an important and crucial first step for us in the redevelopment of this particular site.”

Health Alliance Board Chair Greg Aarssen says it’s great news.

“As you know, the last couple of years have been quite tumultuous, especially for the citizens of Wallaceburg and area,” Aarssen explains. “This is another of the fruits that are coming from restructuring with a new focus on providing quality health care at two sites, two locations, and that’s now embedded in all of our plans.”

Construction on the new ‘power plant’ will begin in 2019.
