CK Public Health is confirming six new cases of COVID-19 on Friday along with a second listed outbreak in long-term care.
There are now three outbreaks declared locally – two in long-term care institutions and one un-named workplace outbreak.
The latest case is connected to Fairfield Park in Wallaceburg, with the outbreak declared as of Thursday. An outbreak was declared at Riverview Gardens in Chatham on December 1st. Only one positive case is required in long-term care settings to be deemed an outbreak. Riverview Gardens has had two positive cases, with one case now connected to Fairfield. The latest case appears to be the only active case in long-term care settings, according to the Public Health website.
Two new recoveries brings Chatham-Kent’s “active” case count to 41. A total of 23 cases are believed to be close contact exposures with six connected to the un-named workplace outbreak, one linked to a workplace outbreak located outside of Chatham-Kent and one at Fairfield Park. One active case is pending and nine are currently unknown.
The provincial totals decreased slightly, with 2,290 new infections reported on Friday. The numbers include 691 in Toronto, 361 in Peel, 296 in York, 207 in Windsor-Essex and 126 in Hamilton. Middlesex-London confirmed 30 new cases, while Lambton had 9 new infections.
Premier Doug Ford says the province continues to consider a potential two-week “lockdown” across southern Ontario from Boxing Day to January 11th.
An announcement on “next steps” is expected on Monday.
Toronto and Peel regions will remain in the “grey zone” under “lockdown” guidelines. Those lockdowns were set to expire on Monday.
