A proposed expansion Dresden waste site expansion that has drawn the ire of local residents and municipal council alike will be the topic of discussion at an upcoming public meeting.

York1 Environmental Waste Solutions Ltd. will be hosting a community input meeting on Friday at the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre. Representatives with the Mississauga company will be in attendance to provide details on a proposed Regenerative Recycling Facility at 29831 Irish School Road.

York1 has submitted a pair of proposals to the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks to increase the area of the waste processing site on Irish School Road to 25 hectares and allow for up to 7,000 tonnes of waste to be received by the facility each day.

The planned Regenerative Recycling Facility will primarily be focused on construction materials and will not accept hazardous materials, according to York1.

The proposed facility and expansion have drawn criticism from Dresden residents who are concerned about the impact the expanded waste site will have on their community.

Chatham-Kent Council also passed a motion on Monday to oppose York1’s proposals in principle and to direct administration to make submissions to the province in opposition to the submitted applications.

Friday night’s public meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be limited to the first 300 attendees. This will be the second public meeting held on the subject, with the first held on February 10 at Dresden’s Rotary Wheelhouse.
