Section of Sidewalk Closed in Tilbury Over Safety Concerns

tilbury demolition

Municipal officials are keeping public safety top of mind as demolition continues on a pair of buildings in downtown Tilbury.

The sidewalk on the west side of a section of Queen Street has been blocked off for the foreseeable future.

Back in 2022, two properties at 47 and 49 Queen Street North were deemed unsafe following reports of a partially collapsed roof and structural failures.

Municipal staff say the condition of the building has further deteriorated with high winds raising concerns about more damage at the site.

Traffic signs have been placed along Superior Street and Queen Street, as well as nearby intersections directing pedestrians to the east side of the road.

Officials say they have stressed to the property owners and insurance providers the importance of getting the demolition project done as quickly as possible.
