Seeking Public Input on CK’s Taxi Bylaw

Municipal officials are getting ready for private transportation companies like Uber to officially operate in Chatham-Kent.

The Municipality is considering repealing the current taxi bylaw and replacing it with a ‘Vehicle for Hire’ bylaw, which would allow companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in Chatham-Kent.

Some of the proposed changes would be no zones or plate limits, a dispatch office would no longer be required, and fares wouldn’t be regulated, but prices would have to be posted and easily visible.

Officials say anyone wishing to speak on the matter is invited to a public input meeting on April 18th at the Civic Centre in Chatham.
