The provincial government is fleshing out its plans to expand ServiceOntario to select Staples stores.
As of February 1st, officials say provincial service such as such as applying for or renewing health cards and driver’s licences will be offered in Staples locations in Oakville, Newmarket, Scarborough, Strathroy, Tillsonburg, and Welland.
Government officials say the move will save roughly $1-million over the duration of the three year pilot project, and will extend service hours by 30% compared to current levels.
The province also points to ServiceOntario locations in Chatham and Dresden as an alternative delivery model, combining municipal and provincial services in a single location.
The government plans to continue exploring expanding and adding new models for ServiceOntario locations, including co-locations with municipalities, First Nations communities, in public libraries and other retail partners, which could include small businesses.
