Several Fatal Collisions Reported Over Long Weekend

It was a deadly weekend on OPP-patrolled roads over the Labour Day long weekend.

The Ontario Provincial Police said seven people lost their lives in separate collisions between August 30 and September 2, including two pedestrians, a motorcyclist and the driver of an off-road vehicle.

Authorities also reported laying 9,143 traffic, marine and Criminal Code charges across the province. Of those, aggressive drivers were the most significant offenders with 4,841 speeding charges laid, along with 124 stunt driving charges.

As well, 545 charges were laid for not wearing a seat below, 234 were laid for impaired driving, and another 102 for distracted driving.

OPP officials are reminding drivers to use roads responsibly with students now back in school to ensure everyone gets to and from their destination safely.
