A pair of community events are being held this week to remember those lost to drug overdoses.

Reach Out Chatham-Kent (R.O.C.K.) will host the two events at the organization’s drop-in centres in Chatham and Wallaceburg to mark International Overdose Awareness Day on Thursday from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The free events will include food and refreshments, local musical talent, art therapy activities sponsored and facilitated by the CO., naloxone training, and substance use education.

According to R.O.C.K., opioid-related overdose deaths in Chatham-Kent have been among the highest across Ontario.

This year’s events will aim to draw attention to the root causes of drug overdoses, including ineffective drug policies, the unregulated drug market, and stigma.

R.O.C.K. drop-in centres are located at 39 Richmond St. in Chatham and 233 Nelson St. in Wallaceburg.
