A violent altercation during a shoplifting incident has landed a Chatham man with charges.

Police were called to a Queen Street business in Chatham Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the man picked up a few items and tried to leave without paying, however he was confronted by two store employees.

According to Chatham-Kent Police, the accused assaulted both employees before running off. Neither victim was seriously injured.

The 28-year-old was located on St Patrick Street and arrested.

He’s been charged with robbery, possession of stolen property, and resisting a peace officer. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
