Municipal officials are working to shore up the Sydenham River.

An environmental assessment has been launched to determine strategies for addressing erosion and slope stability along the river between Tupperville and Dresden.

The study area includes four separate sites of concern which are subject to on-going bank erosion and slope instability. Officials say the conditions pose risks to road users, private property, and infrastructure along Glasgow Line and Short Line.

A drop-in style open house was held in Dresden earlier this week to update local residents about proposed recommendations, which include closing a section of Glasgow Line between Connection Road and King Ferry Road; the evaluation process; and the next steps in the study process.

The project is also open to public feedback with comments being accepted through the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website through March 29th.

The environmental assessment is expected to be complete in May with a tentative start date for construction in October.
