Due to ongoing extreme weather conditions, Chatham-Kent has declared a significant weather event for the municipality.

A significant weather event is declared when a municipality is unable to meet the required level of service due to safety regulations governing hours of work.

The municipality said it deployed all resources to clear the roads early Friday morning, however, due to regulations limiting the hours of work for plow operators, there will be a period when roads could become difficult to drive on.

Poor weather conditions have also promoted Chatham-Kent to temporarily pull plows from some rural roads.

“Near zero visibility due to blowing snow in outlying areas has resulted in snowplows being pulled from service temporarily,” said Chatham-Kent Public Works Director Ryan Brown. “We will continue to assess the situation.”

Driving conditions on local roads remain extremely dangerous due to snow mixed with high winds.
