Signs To Signal Safe Space For Everyone

The municipality is relaunching a visible community initiative that affirms inclusion, safety, and belonging for everyone in the Chatham-Kent community.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has partnered with CK Pride to refresh the “Our Door is Open to Everyone” campaign for 2SLGBTQIA+ residents.

Originally launched with cardboard signage, the campaign now provides durable window clings and stickers that reflect CK Pride’s updated name and new logo, for display at businesses, organizations, and in public spaces.

The signs, designed by Joel Emery and produced locally by CutiePatootieStudios, signal that a space is one where people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions are respected and supported.

“In a community as diverse and geographically large as Chatham-Kent, these window clings offer a simple but meaningful way to signal safety, allyship, and care,” CK Pride said in a news release. “For many people, especially youth, newcomers, and those navigating rural isolation, seeing that sign can make the difference between entering a space or walking away.”

The project is funded through the Hydro One Community Benefit, which provides $1 million annually to the municipality to support local capital projects in recreation and culture.

The window signs will be distributed at municipal centres and CK Public Library branches, as well as at Bill’s Place Community Space at 48 Centre St. in Chatham.
