Plans are moving forward for a new brewery in Chatham-Kent.

Red Barn Brewing co-owner Denny Vervaet says they’re in the process of getting building permits approved for their Lagoon Road property, just outside Blenheim.

“Being that we’re on the farm, we have a little bit extra things to consider, such as wastewater management, fire water, and a well because we’re not on municipal water,” Vervaet says. “It’s a little more challenging, but we’re getting there, one step at a time.”

Vervaet hopes to start construction in the spring when the ground thaws.

“We have to get licensing to actually sell and promote our products, I see that happening more later toward the end of the year when we have a building to actually brew in.”

Vervaet plans to use the brewery as an agri-tourism destination, showing customers how beer is made, fresh from the farm.
