The province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate the death of a man in Sarnia this week.
According to the Special Investigations Unit, police were called to conduct a wellness check on a man at a London Road address late Monday morning, but authorities say the man went into medical distress after an officer arrived.
The 36-year-old was taken to hospital by EMS, and was pronounced dead that afternoon.
Five investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The post-mortem was scheduled for today.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
