Officials with Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit have released more details following Sunday’s active shooter incident on Walpole Island First Nation.
Just before 9 o’clock Sunday morning, members of the Walpole Island Police Service, Lambton OPP, and Chatham-Kent Police were called to a complaint involving a firearm on Chiefs Road South. The OPP Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team, and Canine Unit were also called in to help.
Authorities say there was an interaction between police and the occupants of a vehicle in the area of Pumphouse Road and Shawnee Road, which included the discharge of firearms by officers.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene, but two occupants were later apprehended.
No serious injuries have been reported.
