Unattended candles are getting the blame for a fire on Dufferin Avenue in Chatham.
Crews responded to the property shortly before 9:30 yesterday morning after smoke was seen coming from the home.
A small fire was located in a second-floor bedroom.
Several occupants were helped out of the building and treated by EMS for minor smoke inhalation.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury while on scene and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Six people were displaced by the blaze and are being given assistance from Chatham-Kent Police, Victim Services, and the Red Cross.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
