Smashing Police Property Leads To More Charges

Taking his frustrations out on an inanimate object has resulted in additional charges for a Chatham-Kent man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers arrested the accused on Saturday shortly before midnight on an outstanding warrant related to intimate partner violence. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

The next morning at around 10 a.m., the man became angry while in the booking room counsel phone booth and allegedly smashed the phone. He then turned to officers in a way that suggested he would act violently but ultimately decided against it.

As a result, the 42-year-old man was arrested again and charged with mischief under $5,000.
