Local children’s charities have been given a boost with the annual Tim Hortons Smile Cookie campaign.

$69,000 from Smile Cookies purchased at restaurants in Chatham, Wallaceburg, and Dresden between May 1st and the 7th are going towards the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation.

Over 140 volunteers from the community, including CTC staff and community members assisted with baking and decorating Smile Cookies at the Chatham Armoury kitchen. Throughout the course of the 7-day campaign, volunteers baked over 25,000 cookies to assist in bulking up the supply that could be sold to the public.

The funding will help support services not covered by government funding, such as Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation Services, and Music Therapy. The CTC served over 5,000 children in 2022, which equates to one in every five children in Chatham-Kent.

Tim Hortons in Blenheim, Bothwell, Thamesville, Ridgetown, and Mill Street in Tilbury are supporting the Chatham-Kent Student Nutrition Program, although no totals have been released at this point. Proceeds from Smile Cookies purchased at the eastbound 401 On Route near Tilbury will benefit Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent.

Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign began in 1996 to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children’s Hospital and has grown to become a major fundraising event at Tim Hortons restaurants
