The local public school board has a new Superintendent of Education.
The Lambton Kent District School Board (LKDSB) has appointed Eryn Smit to the position of Superintendent of Education – Indigenous Education / Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Justice. He will assume the role on April 14.
Smit will bring a wealth of experience to the role, with a career that has spanned various roles within the school board, including principal at Victor Lauriston Public School, P.E. McGibbon Public School, and Zone Township Central School. He is currently the principal at Cathcart Boulevard Public School.
Reporting directly to the Director of Education, Smit will be responsible for providing board-wide leadership to improve student achievement, champion anti-oppressive education, and foster strong school-based parent/guardian/community relations.
Smit will take over the role from Gary Girardi, who was appointed as the board’s Director of Education in February.
