A special air quality statement has been issued for Chatham-Kent with smoke plumes expected to move into southwestern Ontario on Wednesday.
Environment Canada said high levels of air pollution are expected to develop due to the ongoing forest fires in northeastern Ontario and Quebec.
Deteriorated air quality is likely Wednesday afternoon and into the evening. Conditions are expected to improve for some areas on Thursday.
The weather agency said air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.
