Changes are coming to snow removal in Chatham-Kent.
According to Pat Bruette, Acting Director of Public Works, the province has made changes to the Provincial Minimum Maintenance Standards, which introduce the mandatory addition of salt or other de-icing products to sidewalks.
While the municipality took care of sidewalk snow removal in 2018, they’re asking all residents to shovel snow and add salt to sidewalks within 48 hours of a storm, until council can discuss the changes.
Bruette says it will be up to council to add sidewalk de-icing to next year’s service. He says it will come to council in the next few weeks.
