Following last year’s overwhelming response, Chatham-Kent residents are once again being asked to name their community snowplows.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has launched another online contest to name snowplows for each of the community’s six wards for the upcoming winter season.
Submissions will be accepted until September 25 before being narrowed down to a list of 25 possibilities. A second voting period will then take place to decide on the 12 winning names.
The municipality said community partner WINMAR Property Restoration Specialists will be coving the cost of decorating each of the 12 plows with their new names.
Last year’s contest drew nearly 1,100 name submissions and more than 5,300 votes were cast to decide the final 12 names.
Mayor Darrin Canniff said he was delighted with the response to last year’s contest.
“We were just trying to have a bit of fun with winter, and it took off from there,” he said. “Chatham-Kent residents love contests and I hope we’ll get a great reaction again.”
Some of last year’s winning names included Anita Shovel, Flurrious George, Snobi One Kenobi, and Blizzard of Oz.
