Snowy Weather Heading Towards CK Just in Time for Christmas

It looks as though a white Christmas could be in store for Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement with a significant winter storm expected late this week.

Officials say precipitation is expected to begin late Thursday as either rain or snow. Temperatures are expected to drop on Friday, leading to a potential flash freeze.

The dropping temperatures will be mixed with strong, potentially damaging winds and snow that could be heavy at times.

Blizzard conditions are possible late Friday and into the weekend for areas downwind of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

That will be followed by a multi-day lake effect snow event into the weekend in the wake of the system for areas east of the Great Lakes.

Temperatures Friday night into the weekend will likely be the coldest of the season so far.

Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca.
