Local residents are being invited to enjoy a hearty meal to help support students in need across the region.
The second annual Soup for School campaign is set to run March 17th to the 21st in support of the VON’s Ontario Student Nutrition Program (OSNP.)
During the third week of March, a portion of proceeds from every bowl of soup purchased at participating restaurants will support School Nutrition Programs in Chatham-Kent, ensuring students attend school well-nourished and ready to learn.
Officials say right now, one in four Canadian children are at risk of going to school on an empty stomach.
“We know that children can’t learn on an empty stomach”, says Rosanna Waldram, OSNP Community Development Coordinator.
In Ontario, Student Nutrition Programs operate on a cost shared model that includes a portion of funding from the provincial government. Remaining program costs are covered through fundraising efforts, grants and donations.
Mamma Maria’s restaurant in Chatham has already committed to sending 631 soups to St. Teresa of Calcutta School.
Other restaurants participating in this year’s ‘Soup for School Food’ include:
One day only
- The Garden: Tuesday
- Tru’s: Wednesday

- Links of Kent: Friday
