Shipping dangerous material by train will be discussed at a staff meeting by Councillors tonight. Municipalities across the country will be doing the same in an effort to prevent another tragedy like the one in Lac Megantique Québec. That derailment killed 47 people. In November Transport Canada introduced new regulations to address rail safety issues calling on municipalities to ensure emergency plans are in place and to ensure communities know what kinds of materials are being shipped by train through their towns.
