The municipality is working on slowing down traffic near the beach in Mitchell’s Bay.

At their online meeting Monday night, Chatham-Kent council approved a motion from North Kent Coun. Jamie McGrail to install speed humps within the parking lot at Mitchell’s Bay’s Dover Beach Park.

The hope is that the speed humps will reduce vehicles squealing in and out of the beach parking lot at fast speeds.  The speed humps will be funded through the municipality’s parking lot lifecycle reserve and it is expected to cost around $2,500.

McGrail said there is a new bike trail in the village and there are concerns that the bike trail passes through the entrance of the beach parking lot.

“We need to ensure our residents and the users of the bike trail that it’s safe to go through and be on that bike trail,” McGrail said.

The Mitchell’s Bay Area Association supports the motion.
