A local man has learned that spitting at a police officer is a good way to find yourself in a holding cell.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a report of an unwanted person on King Street West in Chatham at around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Authorities learned that the man had been standing in the area for an extended period and had previously been asked to leave. When the man refused to he was issued a ticket for trespassing.
However, when he refused to comply again, officers attempted to address the situation, and the man spat inside a police vehicle at an officer.
As a result, a 46-year-old Chatham-Kent man was arrested and is now charged with assaulting a peace officer. He was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a January court date.
