The Laws are a singer-songwriting husband and wife team. Their songs are influenced by folk, country and bluegrass with a sound that is rich and strong conveying love, loss, and passion. The Laws are the first Canadians to win the prestigious Chris Austin Song Writing Contest ( which lead to a writing deal in Nashville).
They have been dubbed ” the best duo out of Canada since Ian and Sylvia “. Their acoustic sound and exquisite harmonies will inspire and engage all audiences.
On Saturday, Nov. 12 at 8 pm, The Laws drive up the road from Wheatley, their home again after several years spent in Nashville writing songs for the big names, and grace The Mary Webb Centre stage. Michele and John Law are a singer song-writing wife and husband team and 2016 marks the 16th Anniversary of The Laws writing and performing together. They have traveled over one million miles, played thousands of shows and continue to inspire audiences with their unique acoustic sound.
Critics are buzzing over comparisons to Ian & Sylvia, The Everly Brothers, and The Laws’ ability to set themselves apart from not only current trends in country music, but also how they run the show. Fiercely independent, they’ve operated without a team of managers or agents and only hire in PR as-needed. Fans and critics are agreeing that The Laws know how to make great original music, engage intimately with their fans and have been winning people over along their one million miles together as couple, musical ensemble, and business team. With 6 albums currently in the trunk after releasing the first one in 2000, this ambitious duo would sometimes perform at over 200 dates in just 1 year. It’s no surprise that takes an uncanny amount of passion and commitment.
They are now working on CD #7 to be released in the spring of 2017 and we’ll hear songs destined for that album and many others that have earned them accolades from their peers, the stars and people like you and me when we are lucky to have the opportunity to see them live. Their songs are influenced by folk, country and bluegrass with a sound that is rich and strong, conveying love, loss and passion. You can learn more about buying your tickets from one of our local retail partners at www.marywebbcentre.ca.
