The two campuses of St. Clair College in Chatham and Windsor are now accepting students into the accelerated personal support workers program.

The Ford government is putting millions into a program to turn out 8200 new PSW’s in the next few years.

It includes tuition free education, and money for expenses like text books.

Having an accelerated PSW program at St. Clair College in Chatham-Kent is perfect considering the high demand for PSWs locally”, said Rick Nicholls, MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington. “COVID-19 has had an impact on PSWs and our healthcare system. Their roll is vital throughout communities, especially when dealing with vulnerable citizens. This new program will help with the increased need for these essential workers.”

Patti France, the President of St. Clair College said “Even as the pandemic eases, I’m confident that there will continue to be a substantial need for PSWs. The experience with COVID has renewed our society’s desire to enhance the care of seniors, chronically ill and disabled – including the very desirable option to keep such individuals comfortable, healthy and safe in their own homes whenever possible. Having an adequate number of PSWs in the province will be essential to realize those health-care goals

There is also tuition assistance for people already in the program to help them finish it up.

That includes a $2,000 dollar grant and a stipend for clinical work.
