Premier Doug Ford is increasing restrictions on the province in an attempt to curb the surging cases of COVID-19. Ford announced a 2 week extension to the emergency order that was originally in place for 4 weeks.
There will be capacity limits on the number of people allowed inside essential businesses and there will now be restriction on inter-provincial travel for the first time. Officers will be posted at the entrances from Quebec and Manitoba and only essential travelers will be allowed in.
All outdoor activities will be limited to people who live at that residence and one other person who lives alone. Golf courses, playgrounds, and basketball courts will be closed.
“ The bottom line is we need more time. We need to close the gap between where we are today, and where we will be with the millions of vaccines we are expecting by June,” Ford says. “We need more time for our vaccine program to take hold. We are in a desperate race right now against an extremely, extremely aggressive and fast moving virus”.
He also said police officers will be stopping vehicles to find out why the occupants are not at home. The tickets will be worth $750 dollars. These new measures go into effect at 12:01 am Saturday.
