With all of the rain and high water levels on area lakes and rivers this spring have caused flooding in some Chatham-Kent communities, local officials are urging caution when getting close to water.

A vehicle was spotted driving around the barricades at Mitchell’s Bay on Monday so the driver could go fishing.

If you see barricades blocking off water-logged roads, Chatham-Kent Police remind drivers they are there for safety reasons and should not be ignored.

Constable Renee Cowell says driving on a closed road is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act, and anyone caught driving around the barricades on a closed road could face a $110 fine.
