Stay Safe This Hallowe’en

It’s Hallowe’en and all of Chatham-Kent’s ghouls and goblins will be out on the street tonight.

Renee Cowell is the Public Information Officer for the Chatham-Kent Police Service.

She says that means everybody needs to be paying attention and staying safe.

“We’re just asking everyone to use some common sense,” Cowell says. “Children are encouraged to trick or treat with a responsible adult, older kids should travel in a group as we all know there is safety in numbers.”

Cowell says costumes should have reflective materials and candy needs to be checked by parents.

“We did have an incident last year in Chatham where a needle was found in a Snickers bar, so we’re just asking all parents to please inspect their children’s candy before they eat them.”

Cowell says everybody, parents, drivers, and kids have a role to play in staying safe.
