Local police are urging trick-or-treaters, parents and drivers to be safe during Halloween night.

Officials with the Ontario Provincial Police say trick-or-treaters should always walk on a sidewalk, if one is available, and use crosswalks to cross the street.

Parents are encouraged to dress their children in bright-coloured costumes to make them more visible to drivers. As well, parents should ensure their child’s mask or other face covering does not obstruct their vision.

With pedestrians on roads for Halloween, drivers are asked to be more alert and to slow down for trick-or-treaters. Motorists should also be keeping an eye out for any little ghosts or goblins that might step out from between parked cars.

Anyone who spots an impaired or dangerous driver is asked to immediately call 911.
