An extreme cold warning remains in effect for Chatham-Kent today with temperatures hovering around -20 C today and wind chill values as low as -35 C at times.

To help give residents a bit of shelter, all branches of the public library will be open as warming centres.

For branches that are normally closed on Wednesdays, including locations in Bothwell, Tilbury, and Ridgetown, they’ll be open from Noon-5.

Wallaceburg and Chatham will be open regular hours 10-6pm.

Blenheim and Wheatley are offering extended hours 10-5pm.

Meantime, municipal officials want to make sure everyone has access to shelter from the cold.

Anyone who needs help can contact the Homeless Response Line whenever the Employment & Social Services office is closed.

Callers will be screened, diverted to safe alternative housing, or referred to local emergency accommodations.

If you need help, call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628.

During regular office hours, the Employment & Social Services office can be reached at 519-351-8573, email ckess@chatham-kent.ca, or by visiting 435 Grand Ave W in Chatham.

The bitter cold snap is expected to start easing up on Friday.
