A Chatham man is facing charges, accused of stealing a hockey net.

Early one morning last month, an officer on patrol spotted two men in a parking lot on Park Ave East trying to load the net onto the roof of a minivan.

The net was seized and police say the two men identified, but not taken into custody. As it turns out, the net had been stolen from a Chatham home.

The investigation took a turn earlier this week when one of the men from the original incident went to police headquarters to try to get the net back.

The 27-year-old was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

The search continues for the second suspect.
