A local man is facing charges after allegedly crashing a stolen vehicle while trying to evade police between Chatham and Tilbury.

The Ontario Provincial Police said an officer clocked a stolen vehicle travelling 160 km per hour in a 90 km per hour zone on Queens Line at around 1 p.m. on Sunday.

When the driver attempted to evade police, the vehicle collided with a guardrail. The driver then exited the vehicle and tried to run from police but he was arrested without incident following a brief foot chase.

As a result, a 53-year-old Chatham man is now charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of driving while suspended, and stunt driving. He will answer the charges in court later this month.
