An arrest has been made following the theft of a wallet in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent Police say several items were taken from the front desk area of a Wellington Street West building on Wednesday afternoon.

Later that evening, police received a call from the victim that she was tracking her stolen phone and her debit and credit cards had been used at several local businesses.

With the help of surveillance footage, investigators were able to identify a suspect. Officers went to the man’s home and were met by another person, who voluntarily surrendered the stolen phone. The accused then came to the door, made several admissions related to the theft and fraud, and handed over the stolen debit and credit cards.

The 39-year-old has since been charged with theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime, fraud under $5000, unauthorized use of a credit card, and charges related to an outstanding warrant from a previous theft.
